Although fulfilling sense pleasures takes on many forms, it’s the hunger of the mind that makes one seek them. This hunger can only be satisfied in stillness, because when the mind is still there is no hunger…
One aspect of the Conditioned Mind is how it hungers in the pleasure seeking mode most of the time. Even when we get down on ourselves, it’s a perverse form of pleasure. The mind wants to keep all the pleasure thoughts and discard the unpleasant ones; it spends most of its time doing this. Whether it’s weaving in and out of traffic, only to catch a red light and have all the cars that you just passed pull up to the same light, or doing something and asking yourself why you did it, the reason for the doing is strictly to fulfill the hunger of pleasure. That your own mind questions why you do what you do is how diabolical it is, but understand it’s only this way because of the way it has been conditioned to fulfill a pleasure hunger craving.
The hunger to fulfill your sought after pleasures does not have your best interest at heart, but the Conditioned Mind doesn’t really care about that; control is all it cares about. It makes the hunger to seek pleasure a false necessity, but when the mind starts to settle and it loses its grip on you, you will see the fallacy of this. True pleasure is in stillness not in things, but the pleasure of stillness is not the same pleasure that you hunger. The pleasure to fulfill a hunger is based in lies, the pleasure of stillness is based in truth. The parable in the bible speaks of satisfying a hunger that only God (stillness) can satisfy. This hunger is the self seeking pleasure of the Conditioned Mind, this is the hunger created. It’s only in stillness that this hunger is satisfied, not because it’s given something, but because in stillness hunger never materializes so there is nothing to fulfill…
The more we grasp for answers outside ourselves the more in the grasp of fear we are. When we look outside, its only because we are fearful of what we might find inside.
